En deuda: Una historia alternativa de la economía by David Graeber
A history that debunks ingrained ideas and reveals the real story of economics. Winner of the Gregory Bateson Book Prize and the Bread and Roses Award for Radical Publishing. Every economics book makes the same assertion: money was invented to address the growing complexity of barter systems. This version of the story has a major flaw: there's no evidence to support it. Graeber presents an alternative history of the emergence of money and markets, and examines how debt has evolved from an economic obligation into a moral one. Since the inception of the first agricultural empires, humans have used complex credit systems to buy and sell goods even before the invention ofcoinage. Today, for the first time in five thousand years, we find ourselves in a society divided between debtors and creditors, with institutions established solely to protect lenders. En deuda is a captivating and relevant account that dismantles deeply ingrained ideas in our collective conscience and reveals humankind's ambivalent relationship with debt: both a driver of economic growth and a tool of oppression.
